7th Grade Class - Ukranian Egg Decorating - Pysanky - May 7, 2014

A pysanka (Ukrainian: писанка, plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist (batik) method. The word pysankacomes from the verb pysaty, "to write", as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax.
Many other eastern European ethnic groups decorate eggs using wax resist for Easter. These include the Belarusians (пісанка, pisanka), Bulgarians (писано яйце, pisano yaytse), Croats (pisanica), Czechs (kraslice), Hungarians (hímestojás), Lithuanians (margutis), Poles (pisanka), Romanians (ouă vopsite, incondeiate or impistrite), Russians(расписанное яйцо "rаspisannoe yaitsо"), Serbs (pisanica), Slovaks (kraslica), Slovenes (pisanica, pirhi or remenke) and Sorbs (jejka pisać).

Sadness comes from not being connected.
When something comes up that U feel angry sad jealous there is something in that moment to look at. A teaching moment. If someone feels something other than love, (anger) thank that person. Say I am feeling angry at this moment and it reminds me of something in my past....

The Aborigines would bend their non-returning boomerangs at a fire to make them return for the benefit of tourists, then bend them back when the tourists left.

7th Grade Class - Co-op Class I.E.W & Math Simulations & Mock Trial - Sept - April 2014

Sure there are lots of consumer math lessons out there, but this one is just like being in a reality game show. Each student draws a biographical sketch depicting their income, marital status, number of children and education level. Using the statistically accurate data, they plan a budget, purchase a car, buy a house and pay income taxes. Students will learn how to write checks and balance a check book, understand their W-2 statement and their credit card statement. The unit culminates with students planning for their retirement. This is a fabulous way to teach about economics and understanding the real world. Each lesson now connects to Common Core Math Standards!

Order in the Court: A Mock Trial Simulation gives students the opportunity to conduct a trial based on a classic fairytale in order to develop their courtroom skills. After developing the necessary vocabulary, students participate in the trial of Ms. Petunia Pig v. Mr. B. B. Wolf. Students not only learn the concepts, but they also learn valuable teamwork and time management skills. The unit culminates in a full mock-trial enactment.
