7th Grade Field Trip - Brass Rubbings - November 14, 2013

Brass rubbings
Episcopal church is the church if England 
Brass rubbings were used on memorial tombs in church's. 
Some had images of patriarchs and coat of arms. 
Coat of arms were used instead of names.
Churches created brass rubbing from Tomb images to preserve history and show types of armor used during different ages.
Also shows what women wore during that period including Abbey styles. 
Dog means loyalty. Dogs. represent a loyal person. 
Lion means brave, strong, ferocious or royalty. Perhaps signifying the knight fought for a king. 
Early death due to plague, sickness, disease, war. They didn't bathe. 
June brides due to warm weather and bathing in May. Blooming flowers helped cover smell as well
Salute due to armor being raised by knights. 
Handshake shows no weapon therefore friend.
